Heathrow reveals its latest rankings of the noisiest and dirtiest airlines at the airport

Heathrow has unveiled its latest rankings for the noisiest and dirtiest airlines using the London airport, with Kuwait Airways trailing at the bottom of the rankings.
The airport, which in June announced it would start an airline league table to judge the quietest and cleanest, has today released its report for the second quarter.
As for the cleanest airlines, Aer Lingus knocked British Airways’ short-haul off the top spot, with Etihad Airways in third again, followed by Air Malta in fourth.
Among the movers, Air India soared 37 places to round up the top five this time round, which the airport said was partly due to its use of Boeing Dreamliners, as the aircraft emits 20 to 25 per cent less CO2 than the planes it replaces.
El Al, which came bottom of the rankings last time round, has also started operating a Dreamliner, which Heathrow said should lead to an improving position on the list.
Matt Gorman, Heathrow director of sustainability, said:
Upgrading aircraft is the single best way to cut emissions, and to continue to shrink our noise footprint.
We are pleased to see our efforts, including increasing our charges for noisier aircraft this year, are yielding results and we hope to continue the trend seen this month so our passengers and local communities benefit from Heathrow’s newer, cleaner fleets.
The airport has increasingly been looking to tackle environmental concerns, with a third runway on the horizon. The government gave Heathrow expansion the green light last October, though concerns have been raised of potential political opposition when a vote on the national policy statement goes before the House of Commons next year.
Heathrow boss John Holland-Kaye however, told City A.M. this week that he had not seen any evidence for a loss of support for the third runway.[/LEFT]
