للوهلة الأولى اذا نظرت لهذه الصورة يمكن وصفها بأنها حفرة عملاقة في المياه , لكنها في الواقع وسيلة للسيطرة على تدفق المياه من سد أو حاجز في منطقة المصب. هذه القنوات تساعد على منع الفيضانات من تدمير السد.
